  • 1 small pot
  • 1 stirring utensil
  • 1 immersion blender

Ingredients

  • 3 medium sweet apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup strained tomatoes (or crushed tomatoes)
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon worsteshire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for sauteeing)

Instructions

  • ​Sautee onions in butter until translucent.
  • Add garlic, and sauté, stirring frequently, until fragrant (make sure not to allow garlic to turn brown or it will be bitter).
  • Add onion and garlic mixture to the pot of a slow cooker or instant pot.
  • Add remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
  • Slow cook in crock pot or instant pot on low for 10 hours.
  • *If using a pressure cooker, set to slow cooker mode and keep steam nozzle open while cooking.*
  • After 10 hours, blend ingredients together with an immersion blender.
  • Pour sauce into a small pot and cook on the stove top on low heat to reduce water content for about 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your desired thickness.
