Why You Will Love This Matcha Lemonade Recipe

Easy
This easy recipe has no wait time since hot water is not required. Simply layer a cold matcha mixture over a healthy and sweet lemonade mixture, then add some ice cubes and enjoy!
Healthy
This delicious drink is loaded with health benefits. Matcha green tea (made from young green tea leaves ground into a powder) is known for being rich in antioxidants, which help protect the body from harmful free radicals (source). To enjoy matcha in the most healthy way, make sure to use a high quality ceremonial grade matcha. Keep in mind that matcha from certain regions may have higher heavy metal content than that of others. To be on the safe side, I limit my matcha consumption to one per day.
The fresh lemon juice in this recipe provides bioavailable vitamin C, which plays a role in countless processes in the body. These include functions like collagen production, iron absorption, immune function, vascular health, and more! (Source).
This healthy lemonade is also made with natural sweeteners instead of refined sugar or simple syrup!
Delicious
The earthy and grassy elements of matcha tea combine wonderfully with the bright, sour flavors juice squeezed from fresh lemons. These ingredients are amplified by sweet maple syrup and chilled with ice cubes for a deliciously green homemade lemonade!
Energizing
With pure matcha powder averaging 60 mg of caffeine per teaspoon, this lemonade will put a pep in your step! Not only does matcha green tea powder contain caffeine, but it also contains L-theanine, an antioxidant that counterbalances the jitters caused by caffeine. This means high-quality matcha powder generally provides a calmer, more focused energy than coffee (source), (source).
How to Store This Matcha Green Tea Lemonade
Prefer to make a batch of this green tea lemonade ahead of time and enjoy it later? No problem! You can combine all of the ingredients (except for the ice) and store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 48 hours. Once you’re ready to enjoy a glass, then add the ice cubes. Keep in mind that if you prefer to serve it this way, it will not have the separate layers of the yellow and vibrant green color.
Do You Need a Bamboo Whisk?
If you don’t have a special matcha whisk, no problem! I usually use a regular whisk or a handheld frother to mix my cold matcha. Make sure to keep mixing until all of the clumps are broken up.
Do You Need to Heat the Water to a Certain Temperature?
For cold matcha drinks, it is not necessary to heat the water. Cold water actually gives matcha a more subtle, sweet taste that pairs wonderfully with lemonade!
Optional Add Ins
Strawberry: blend your lemonade mixture with a handful of fresh or frozen strawberries in a highspeed blender for a delicious pink strawberry lemonade layer!
Lavender: add a pinch of lavender to this lemonade for an aromatic, calming flavor profile.
Ginger: add some spice to this drink by adding some spicy juiced ginger to the mix!
